Drail's Services


Information and Referral: Provides information or referrals on current services and resources for persons with disabilities.

Personal Assistance Referrals: Provides a referral list of potential care providers. Specialists assist persons with disabilities to find appropriate care providers.

Housing Referrals: Provides information education and advocacy on accessible and low-income housing.

Individual Advocacy: Empowers and provides assistance to individuals with disabilities. Helps persons develop knowledge and skills for effective future advocacy activities.

Systems Advocacy: Develops partnerships between the centers and the consumers working to create change within a system, agency, jurisdiction, etc. in order to create equal opportunities for people with disabilities to live independently.

Peer Advising: Provides consumers with peer advising resources that facilitate frank, honest discussions about dealing with one’s disability and related issues, such as socialization, emotional adjustment, accessing resources and family relations.

Peer Support Volunteer Training: Volunteers with disabilities are trained as Peer Support Volunteers to provide one-on-one support to consumers, their friends and families.

Volunteer Services: Provides opportunities for agency involvement in program services, fund raising and special projects in order to gain new skills and work experience.

Independent Living Skills: Provides consultation and training on an individual or workshop basis for persons with disabilities to acquire practical daily living skills for home and community accessibility.

Benefits Advising: Provides benefits advising to consumers and their families about their rights and responsibilities involving possible or actual public benefits (i.e. SSI, SSDI, Medicare, Medical, etc.)

Disability Awareness Sensitivity Training: Provides training to the community and other organizations in the area of employment, socialization and the civil rights of people with disabilities.

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Technical Assistance & Evaluation: Provides on site assessment and evaluation to public and private organizations to assist in complying with the ADA.

Motor Voter Registration: Offers the opportunity for persons with disabilities the option of becoming a registered voter.

Braille Classes: Offers the opportunity to learn how to read and write Braille. The class is open to anyone who has an interest in learning Braille.

Assistive Technology: Assists persons with disabilities to determine which adaptive device(s) fit each person in order to meet their daily living needs.

Youth with Disabilities Advisory Committee (ages 15 to 20): Provides for discussions on legislative issues that affect youth with disabilities, participation in community advocacy and taking field trips to meet with state leaders in Sacramento.

Visually Impaired Equipment: Modesto Independent Living Center has a display case with various magnifiers and binoculars for persons with visual impairments. One-on-one consultation is provided to the consumer to determine which equipment best fits their needs. Classes are small, personal and tailored to meet the needs of the participants.

Homeowner's and Renter's Tax Assistance Credit: DRAIL's staff has been trained to assist low-income persons with disabilities with their Homeowner's and Renter's Tax Assistance forms. These forms are available at each office.

Dial-a-Ride Certification: DRAIL is an authorized agency that provides certification of persons with disabilities for Dial-a-Ride services.

Interpreters: Language and sign language interpreters are available upon request.

Work Incentive Planning & Assistance: Provides the services for persons with disabilities who receive Social Security entitlements to understand the different SSA entitlement programs in order to achieve employment.

Utility Assistance Programs: DRAIL's staff has been trained to assist low-income persons with disabilities with both the PG&E Cares and MID Care applications for discounts on their utility bills. These application forms are available at each office.
